Reflection

I honestly think I could have done better in this project, I had a great plan but everything fell apart very quickly. for starters, my actor had quit on me and the lighting I wanted to use was expensive and hard to make yourself. also the materials for the scene did not come together, but my partner and i pulled through and created something great. my film opening cannot export on iMovie I've tried everything but it will not export correctly, it exports 25 seconds of it rather than the full 2 minutes. I have learned a crazy amount during this process and hope to one day be able to produce my own real film. next time I will try to have back up plans just incase my first one doesnt workout good. Although I planned a lot during this production things can change in an instant so I learned its better to plan different scenarios rather than one.

Sounds

In my production, I have a lot of sounds I need to record to emphasize every sound that is "diegetic" in the film.
I did a lot of research on how to create certain sound effects and they helped me a lot, I feel I will get a lot of good sounds recorded.
here are some of the websites I found:

https://www.izotope.com/en/blog/music-production/dont-blend-in-9-ways-to-create-unique-sounds.html

https://makezine.com/projects/diy-sound-effects/

https://www.asoundeffect.com/film-sound-tutorial/

https://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/art-of-making-sound-effects/

I'm going to use a soundproof area and I will be using the only tools I have which are my laptop and Beats headphones, I use to use this for my olf youtube channel it does a very good job at recording specific sound.

some of the sounds I plan to record are:
- pill bottle shaking
- bag shaking
- heavy breathing
- sniffling

- woman screaming
- heavy feet walking
- hands against the wall
- bag zipping
- door opening
- door squeaking
and probably more, there's a lot of sounds that occur in our natural world so they all must be rerecorded to put the emphasis on them. I want to edit these sounds to sound very realistic in the final production.

StoryBoard Description

I'm going to explain my storyboard with more detail.

basically, it begins with a black screen and you will hear heavy breathing, then the production title will appear it will then cut to a lightbulb turning on. this is where we will debut our film title, and it will tilt down to the main subjects arm and him breathing heavily. it will immediately jump to the fast-paced editing of him going toward his bag and he will start packing, the subject is crying and move about in a frantic way and also is very flustered. he grabs his bag and then begins to add items in, here I would use a close up to show importance to the bag and the items being put in. during these shots the credits will be appearing and matching the pace of the film, we want the credits to show throughout the whole 2 minutes maybe 30 seconds to spare.

Next, the subject will be in the middle of packing and he will begin to experience his schizophrenia and the color of the lighting will change to red (or other colors) and a change of music to show t
hat whenever this occurs it means hes experiencing his mental illness. during all of the 2 minutes, the character will continue to heavily breathe and cry delibrately.

Next the subject will hear screaming (diegtic sound) and then the scene will progress slightly faster as the subjesct realizes they must move faster, the subject will grab the bag and begin to rush and add things. the bag will be very oversized to show the bag is bigger than the subject. he will hear footsteps annd then grab a blanket to hid under, the character is very young and the blanket is showing that the kid does not know what he is doing because he is hiding under a blanket which is not a secured placed. on the front page of the storyboard you can see a bathtub drawing we decided not to go with that idea and use this blanket idea so please diregard it, also we put blanket or box because we were sure at the moment but now we know for sure we will use a blanket. anyways using an extreme clsoe up we will show the characters eyes as the light shines directly in the subjects
eyes, he will be covering his mouth with his hand to refrain from his breathing being heard and he will still continue to cry. i want to use a POV shot to show what the character is seeing and then he will get really silent for a second, the back ground youll hear someone walking (we will either record this sound or use from the internet.) and then when the walking passes the scene will shift into to really fast paced editing and the character is really in a rush to leave he will run and garb his items and zip up his bag anf head out, he will carefully open the door and walk low and against to the wall and the it will basically end there.

Group Discussion 2

Today in class was our group discussions and I got so much positive feedback on my idea and how I intend on creating it.
the first thing that was discussed what types of symbols I should use, for example, my subject is running away so they're packing for their voyage. the types of items they would grab is a prescription box to show that he has a sickness and is on medication for it. the subject could also grab a teddy bear and a small car to show that he is a kid. then the subject could grab a soft weapon(s) to show that he is an amateur at the current situation. he could also grab a phone or map to help him find his way around. I also want to have my subject grabbing old food.

Another thing that we discussed was the type of lighting I should use. I want to create a dim sense of lighting and my group members gave me a couple ideas with this, using a bunch of warm-toned flashlights and a lot of covered of warm-toned light bulbs I could get the lighting I'm looking for. the subject has a mental illness, schizophrenia specifically and when it's showing that the subject is experiencing it then the color of the scene would change to either red or multi-colored lighting.

lastly, another thing that was discussed was mis-en-cense for example how the main subject should look and dress. the main subject would look dirty, using makeup I want to create the look of someone who has been running for a while or homeless like. I want to give the character dark under eye circles to show that they have not slept in days and battles with their mind.

overall really helpful ideas and I feel I have a little more guidance with my project now so let's see how it goes from here.

Pre Production

As we begin our production I'm looking at a really scary theme opening but not one with fast-paced editing. I was looking at movies with very chaotic flustered scene beginnings,

one example I was looking at was;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKDDyaViwj8

this is the first 2 minutes of the movie The Conjuring (dir. James Wan)
I like how the editing pace starts slow and gradually increases as the scene progresses. this is a kind of style I want to use in my production.

another example would be:

https://youtu.be/Cs0PrI3ylso

in this scene, the woman is running frantically scared of something and I want to portray that same type of the energy of a frightened person scared and preparing to/running from something or someone

I wanna begin the scene with a black screen with the sound of heavy breathing and then begin by the turning on of a light bulb and this is where I would present my title.. and from there I want it to show a little boy getting ready to pack and go somewhere unknown. once I go through my storyboard I will explain with more detail everything in each specific scene.
